How to Restart a VDS Server

This guide explains the key concepts, practical steps and important considerations for how to restart a vds server.

Restart vs Power Off

Restart performs a controlled shutdown and boot. Power off leaves the server stopped. A forced power cycle should generally be a last resort.

Windows Server

From RDP, use Start > Power > Restart. An elevated command prompt can also run shutdown /r /t 0.

Linux Server

From SSH, use sudo reboot or reboot when authorized. Allow important operations to finish first.

Control Panel Restart

If the operating system is unreachable, use the VDS customer panel's restart/reboot action. Reset or forced power actions may be less graceful.

Before Restarting

Check database operations, updates, backups, file transfers and active users. Schedule maintenance for production systems where possible.

If the Server Does Not Return

Check panel status, console output, boot errors and disk condition. Recovery access may be required after a failed update or boot issue.

Conclusion

Prefer a controlled operating-system restart whenever possible. Use panel or console controls carefully when your İde Bilişim VDS is unresponsive.

Frequently Asked Questions

Before making major changes, record the current configuration and maintain a usable backup. Critical networking, storage and security changes on production servers should be planned and tested carefully.
